This is way better than explorer..

yeah! I was always an explorer guy, because of the cntrl+n feature, but firefox rules more by the cntrl+t feature to open a new tab in the same firefox screen.

I try to convert my friends to firefox. My brother asked "is that the internet thing?" Some tend to think IE is the internet instead of just a browser.

Thank Microsoft to include IE in every copy of windows monopolizing the use of internet. Netscape was a very popular browser back then before this strategy of Microsoft. It not only hurt Netscape, IE still the majority thanks to it.

Hmm..

So, then, what do you think Microsoft should've done?
Do you think they should've put someone else's browser on their computers or is their some way where one could download a browser for free without being on-line?

I'm not very knowledgeable about economy or software, so, you know..

The thing i love most in FF is the middle mouse click to open page in a new tab... implementing this IE7 gained a lot of points. But then there are the insurmountable philosophical/political/economical[religion ?] differences between the two :-)

I defently agree that Firefox is a great browser, it gives me the ability to see advanced things and easily find things on the internet that would have taken me ages on Internet Explorer to find. The colour code in the Firefox (Right-click->View Page Source) is great.

#5 They did not needed to put their programs at all in their operative system, in my opinion it is abusing their power on Hardware Market which for a long period of time blinded me before I finally realised that Firefox existed, and that every user on the Internet owns it. Open Source :D

5: How did I do when IE wasn't included then?

You used Netscape or its predecessor, Mosaic.
Go here for other historical and current browsers.
But the real problem wasn't really Ms giving IE away but Ms making it hard to definitively switch from it to another browser... quite everyting in life is a choice problem :-)

Microsoft included IE and Intergrated it and made anti competitive moves to stifle the competition, this was central to the Anti-Trust case against them in the late 90's

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_v._Microsoft [en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_v._Microsoft]

"During the antitrust case it was revealed that Microsoft had threatened PC manufacturers with revoking their license to distribute Windows if they removed the Internet Explorer icon from the initial desktop,[citation needed] something that Netscape had requested of its licensees.[citation needed]"

The main reason I steer people clear of IE and over to firefox when fixing their computers is that it isn't quiet as easy to infect a system using firefox as it is to infect a system using IE via Active X, VBS, BHO's and all that nice software that happily implants it self through an OS intergrated browser like IE.

Yes other browers were available through ftp, bbs coverdiscs etc.. you didn't need IE, and it wasnt the first browser, or the best, it was just made popular through pre installation and marketing. Much like Vista claims to have a huge install base, yes my new laptop came with Vista pre installed, it also came with XP downgrade discs. I can't see me staying with Vista.

Firefox is king!
